AHS Centaur was torpedoed off the coast of Queensland on 14 May, 1943. 268 died including 11 of the 12 nurses on board. On 14 May 2021, Queensland Governor His Excellency the Honourable Paul de Jersey AC, Pixie Annat MBE OAM and others remembered them at the 78th anniversary memorial service in the Chapel at Australian Catholic University, Banyo.
The Nurses Memorial Candlelight Vigil 2021, hosted by The Centaur Memorial Fund for Nurses, was held in Brisbane’s Anzac Square on Friday 23 April 2021.

When the Centaur Memorial Fund for Nurses was established in 1948 one of our fund raising endeavours, in aid of promoting and supporting nursing in Australia, was the “Queen of the Nurses” competition.
